Diabetes UK have released a new position statement titled "Availability of Specialist Support and Equal Access to Surgery for People with Diabetes".

ABCD is full supportive of this position statement. Patients with diabetes need to have equal access to elective surgery opportunities. It is of paramount importance that robust diabetes pathways are in place, with timely access to specialist teams and good communications between the patient, all specialist teams and Primary Care.

Post transplant related diabetes - new guideline launch

Solid organ transplantation for patients with end organ failure is a well-established, life-saving and life-changing treatment. People with diabetes are particularly prone to developing end stage renal disease, and transplantation is shown to improve quality and quantity of life.

Amongst people who do not have diabetes, the development of diabetes after solid organ transplantation occurs in 10-40% of recipients, and is a marker for increased mortality and morbidity (including graft loss) after transplantation.
