ABCD Diabetes Update 2024

REGISTRATION FOR ABCD DIABETES UPDATE 2024 IS NOW CLOSED!

31st January - 2nd February 2024.

The Diabetes Update programme is a new initiative for trainees in diabetes and endocrinology. It aims to cover the diabetes section of the training curriculum for diabetes and endocrinology issued by the Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board. It is also a great opportunity for more established clinicians to find out the latest updates in the area of diabetes.

Maintaining and delivering diabetes services during COVID-19 Pandemic

ABCD has been working with the In-Patient Diabetes lead for Diabetes UK, Prof Gerry Rayman, and a group of Specialists in Diabetes to produce much needed guidance describing the maintenance and delivery of specialist diabetes services during COVID-19.

The document is intended for those involved in delivering and redesigning diabetes services in the light of this pandemic. It recognises the importance of maintaining certain elements of the diabetes service which will be essential in reducing the burden on hospitals and supporting inpatient teams.

ABCD Inspire Podcast Series - Dr Emma Wilmot

In our first ever ABCD Inspire Podcast, our host, Dr Petra Hanson, is joined by Dr Emma Wilmot, Associate Professor at the University of Nottingham, Consultant Diabetologist in Derby, and founder of the Diabetes Technology Network UK (DTN-UK).

Emma shares how her own personal circumstances and experiences inspired her journey into the field of diabetes, how that journey has progressed throughout her career and parenthood, the challenges that she has had to overcome trying to create a balanced lifestyle, and what exciting research projects she is currently focussed on.

On-demand webinar: Re:Mission study – learning from staff and service user insights from the NHS Low Calorie Diet pilot

NHS England piloted a Low Calorie Diet (LCD) programme, delivered through Total Diet Replacement (TDR) and behaviour change support via 1:1, group or digital delivery, to improve Type 2 Diabetes in adults with excess weight. The impact and implementation of this pilot required evaluation to inform longer-term commissioning decisions.

Webinar: Screening for and managing early type 1 diabetes

As screening initiatives are being set up internationally, and with the availability of clinical coding for presymptomatic type 1 diabetes (T1D), an increasing number of people are being identified with T1D before they need insulin treatment. These people need careful support and care and it falls on us in secondary care to provide this. This session will outline the different screening initiatives around the UK, the approaches to managing early T1D and review some case histories.
