The ABCD Consultant Development Programme (CDP) is designed to provide SpRs and newly appointed consultants with the opportunity to explore the non-clinical aspects and challenges of being both a leader and a clinician. This course, which has been running since 2015, will be delivered in 2026 by the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) on behalf of ABCD.
The course will run as a five-day programme from 11am on Monday 15th June to 3.30pm on Friday 19th June 2026 at the RCP’s state-of-the-art facility, The Spine, Liverpool. The proposed agenda for the programme is provided below.
Geared to doctors in their final year of training and newly appointed consultants, this stimulating and experiential programme will prepare you well for the next transition in your career.
Who can attend?
Only ABCD members can be allocated places. ABCD membership fees for SpR’s are just £25 per year. Membership also gives you access to discounted registration rates for other ABCD events. If you are not already a member, join ABCD today.
Places are limited to ensure a dynamic and interactive group. If the course is over-subscribed, we will give priority to those in their final year of training and those who are newly appointed consultants.
Course fees
The CDP course is underwritten by ABCD. The cost per head for the CDP, including all resources and refreshments during the course, is £1,500, requiring a personal contribution of £600 per person. Payment by credit or debit card via Stripe will be required to register. Your place will only be confirmed once your eligibility and ABCD membership have been verified.
Delegates are responsible for arranging and funding their own accommodation, evening meals and travel.
Funding for consultant personal development can be accessed via NHS Trust Study Leave budgets towards delegate personal contributions. SpR delegates should be able to access the Study leave allowance within your trust. Please check the specific local trust policy for more information.
