Following the publication of the National Competency Framework for Training and Assessment of Knowledge and Skills in Diabetes Technologies (Richardson et al., 2026), the Diabetes Technology Network UK has developed a practical implementation tool to support diabetes services across the UK.
The Self-Assessment of Competency for Healthcare Professionals Delivering Insulin Pump (CSII) and Hybrid Closed-Loop (HCL) Services is available free of charge and has been designed to help healthcare professionals assess their current knowledge and skills, identify development needs, and guide ongoing learning in diabetes technologies.
The tool supports consistent implementation of the national competency framework, workforce development, service governance, and the safe delivery of CGM, insulin pump, and HCL therapies. It can be used by individual healthcare professionals, mentors, and service leads to benchmark competency and inform training plans.
DTN UK encourages all diabetes technology services to adopt the self-assessment tool as part of their local education and competency programmes.
The tool and supporting resources can be accessed at the bottom of this page. Please read the foreword before accessing the assessment tool.
Feedback on the toolkit is welcome. Please submit to info@abcd.care.
