Erica completed her nurse training in Manchester and qualified as a RGN 1999. She has nursing experience in acute, primary and community nursing.

She now works in a combined role as a nurse lecturer, APC and lead diabetes research at the university hospitals of Leicester. For the previous 10 years she worked as an independent nurse practitioner and the lead for adult in-patient services at SaTH NHS Trust. Here, she had led in the development and management of all the services but retained the clinical nurse lead role for the insulin pump services. She has a master’s level qualification in continuous insulin pump therapy which she gained through Liverpool University and now leads the MSC qualification in type 1 diabetes and technologies at the UoL (alongside other diabetes related modules). In addition, Erica is a key member of the teaching faculty for the practical diabetes technologies and HCL technology courses provided by LDC and currently leads on many of the leading research projects relating to diabetes and technologies at the LDC.
She also has roles with TREND-Diabetes and the editorial board for Practical diabetes. She is known for role in the development and co-author status of the national diabetes competencies and other guidance, patient support information developed by TREND – diabetes. She regularly reviews and comments on other national documents, has developed her own publications and has presented 2 abstracts at national/ international conferences this year. She has 23 years’ experience in the training and education of nursing and medical staff and proven record of teaching experience at local, national and international level.
