I am an Associate Professor in Psychology and a Clinical Psychologist. I have worked in specialist inpatient, outpatient and daycare services for children, adolescents and adults with eating disorders in the NHS, and supported patients’ family members and carers. At University College London, I lead a research group focused on social emotional functioning in eating disorders. This research looks at understanding the cognitive and social emotional factors that might lead to and perpetuate eating disorders and is also interested in translating the findings into new treatments. We have received funding from the Wellcome Trust, Medical Research Council and BA/Leverhulme to develop better knowledge of the cognitive and emotional factors that contribute to the development and maintenance of eating disorders. I have worked with the King’s Diabetes Research Team and people with lived experience to develop the first cognitive behavioural model of type 1 diabetes and disordered eating informed by lived experience and co-designed a new cognitive behavioural based treatment to help people with disordered eating alongside type 1 diabetes as part of the STEADY project. I have supported with people with diabetes and disordered eating as part of the STEADY project which is a feasibility RCT. I work with people across the lifespan with eating disorders and other psychological difficulties at Altum Health where I am also Clinical Lead.
