Professor Iain Chapple

Iain Chapple was Director of Research, Institute of Clinical Sciences (2016-2022), Dean of the Dental School (2016-2020) at Birmingham University UK. He has published 13-textbooks, 35-chapters and >250 papers. Iain was awarded: The Royal College of Surgeons Tomes medal (2011); International Association Dental Research Distinguished Scientist (2018); European Federation of Periodontology Eminence Award (2022) and MBE in the 2022 Queens New Year’s Honour’s. He leads a regional periodontal service (referral base 6 million) and a national oral care service for adults with Epidermolysis Bullosa. He has a strong interest in mechanisms underpinning periodontal-systemic disease links and in immune-microbial interactions.
