We are well into the undesirable 2nd wave of COVID-19 and hospitals are filling up with increasing numbers of patients require hospital services. Clearly, at times like this it is important that Diabetes and Endocrine teams maintain essential In-patient and Outpatient Diabetes and Endocrine services, geared towards supporting patients and avoiding further hospital admissions. The document from SfE is a good guide for the teams to follow.
It also includes a link, which was developed jointly by ABCD, RCPL and SfE, which provides guidance on essential D&E services, for the diabetes teams while planning services during the 2nd wave. This is very much linked to the workforce capacity which remains variable throughout UK.
