Dr Hellena Habte-Asres is a Clinical Academic Nurse and postdoctoral researcher specialising in diabetes and chronic kidney disease (CKD). She is Lead Clinical Academic Nurse in Diabetes and CKD at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.

She holds academic appointments as a Visiting Research Fellow at King’s College London and Assistant Professor at St Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College. She is also a Senior Fellow of the International Diabetes Federation.

Her work focuses on improving outcomes for people with advanced microvascular complications of diabetes. Her doctoral research in epidemiology examined the role of glycaemic variability in the development and progression of kidney disease, identifying critical gaps in clinical practice and informing innovative models of care.

Her work has received national and international recognition, with six awards for innovation, research, and quality improvement in diabetes care.
