Diabetes leaders in the field have been recognised for their dedication and achievements in the King’s Birthday Honours List. Prof. Melanie Davies CBE has become a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) for services to global diabetes, research, policy and care management.
Prof. Davies said, “I was delighted to receive the award of Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the King’s Birthday Honours. It’s always a pleasure to support ABCD, to share updates relating to Type 2 diabetes at the {Diabetes Update} meeting in early 2026 and to be part of the mentoring programme, where I am able to give back to our community.”
Prof. Wasim Hanif has been awarded an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to diabetes and health inequalities. Prof. Hanif said, "I am deeply honoured to receive this award. Throughout my career, I have been driven by a desire to improve the lives of people living with diabetes and to address the inequalities that continue to affect health outcomes across our society."
He added:
"This recognition reflects the dedication and support of the many colleagues, students, researchers and healthcare professionals I have had the privilege to work alongside. While this is a tremendous personal honour to me and my family, it is also recognition of the importance of continuing our efforts to deliver fairer, more inclusive healthcare."
