New BJD Joint Editors-in-Chief Appointed

We are pleased to announce that two Joint Editors-in-Chief have been appointed for the British Journal of Diabetes (BJD), the official journal of the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists. The journal aims to increase knowledge, disseminate and stimulate research, and promote better management of people with diabetes by providing a forum for the exchange of ideas.

We welcome Dr. Srikanth Bellary and Dr. Ben Field, who bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the roles, and look forward to the next chapter of the journal under their direction.

Dr Bellary is a Reader in Metabolic Medicine at the Aston University and a Hon. Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, Birmingham, UK. He was instrumental in developing the Solihull Integrated Diabetes Model (SOLID). He is also the secondary care lead for Diabetes in the Birmingham and a member of the joint ABCD-UKKA committee. Dr Bellary has published in many reputed journals including the Lancet, Diabetes Care, Diabetologia and Diabetic Medicine and serves on the editorial board of BMC Endocrine disorders and Therapeutic Advances in Endocrinology and Metabolism.

On his appointment Dr Bellary said: ‘I am honoured to take on the role of Editor-in-Chief of BJD at this exciting time. I look forward to working with the editorial board, authors, and reviewers to strengthen the journal as a trusted platform for high quality and impactful research focused on advancing diabetes care.’

Dr Ben Field is an Associate Professor of Diabetes & Endocrinology at the University of Surrey and an honorary consultant endocrinologist at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. After service in the Royal Engineers, he graduated from St Bartholomew’s Hospital, undertook specialist training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, and was awarded an MRC fellowship and subsequently an NIHR clinical lectureship to pursue research at Imperial College London. His clinical and academic interests include gut hormone physiology, drug development in type 2 diabetes, hypoglycaemia and self-management in type 1 diabetes, hyperglycaemic emergencies, and diabetic foot disease. His other roles include Caldicott Guardian for the University of Surrey; NIHR Kent, Surrey and Sussex (KSS) Clinical Research Network specialty lead for diabetes, metabolic and endocrine disorders; Health Education England KSS Training Programme Director for Internal Medicine Training, and Armed Forces and Veterans clinical lead for Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.
