Dr. Ben Field

Dr Ben Field is an Associate Professor of Diabetes & Endocrinology at the University of Surrey and an honorary consultant endocrinologist at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. After service in the Royal Engineers, he graduated from St Bartholomew’s Hospital, undertook specialist training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, and was awarded an MRC fellowship and subsequently an NIHR clinical lectureship to pursue research at Imperial College London. His clinical and academic interests include gut hormone physiology, drug development in type 2 diabetes, hypoglycaemia and self-management in type 1 diabetes, hyperglycaemic emergencies, and diabetic foot disease. His other roles include Caldicott Guardian for the University of Surrey; NIHR Kent, Surrey and Sussex (KSS) Clinical Research Network specialty lead for diabetes, metabolic and endocrine disorders; Health Education England KSS Training Programme Director for Internal Medicine Training, and Armed Forces and Veterans clinical lead for Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.

The Association of British Clinical Diabetologists is the national organisation of Consultant Physicians in Britain who specialise in Diabetes Mellitus. Most are also Acute General Physicians, and many are also Specialists in Endocrinology and Lipid Metabolism.
