On Demand Webinar: Facing up to Challenges to diabetes services post Covid
This is the third ABCD webinar in a series of four.
In this webinar, the focus will be the challenges facing diabetes services as they adapt to life after Covid. The ABCD risk stratification model and the thought that went into it will be discussed along with a talk about how technology may help in the recovery process.
This 30 minute presentation will be delivered by Pratik Choudhary, during the presentation you will be able to post questions for our Q&A session after the talk.
This event is approved by the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom for category 1 external CPD credit for 1 hour and a CPD certificate can be obtained after the event by completing a short evaluation.

Professor Pratik Choudhary
Professor Pratik Choudhary is Professor and Honorary consultant in Diabetes with a special interest in type 1 diabetes and technology. He has active clinical and research programs around education, psychology and technology in type 1 diabetes. In particular, his research uses neuroimaging to explore the mechanisms of hypoglycaemia unawareness, and the use of different strategies such as technology and behavioral interventions to restore awareness. He has been involved in a number of national and international research studies, as well as a number of national and international training and education programs for diabetes.
He is ex-chair of the Diabetes Technology Network – UK, medical advisor to the Department of Transport, associate editor for Diabetic Medicine, Midlands Type 1 Diabetes Clinical Lead and member of the EASD Post Graduate education committee. -
Professor Umesh Dashora
Consultant
Umesh Dashora is a consultant in Hastings and has trained in diabetes and endocrinology at Newcastle and Southampton among other centres.
He has been a keen member of the ABCD executive team since 2013 and has actively promoted and contributed to the ABCD journal as the news editor. He has represented ABCD in JBDS-IP and contributed to a number of recent national guidelines the most recent being diabetes management during delivery in which he is the first author. This is now published. Umesh and Dinesh have developed an online module for the Royal College of Midwives which has had very good uptake.
He is the first author of one of the first ABCD position statements on SGLT-2 inhibitors in type 2 diabetes and the updated position statement on SGLT-2 inhibitors in type 1 diabetes.
Umesh also published on the use of U500 in UK on behalf of ABCD .
He is the new meeting secretary of ABCD. He also holds the regional adviser position for the Royal colleges of Physicians of London and Edinburgh. -
Dr. Dinesh Nagi
Consultant in Diabetes & Endocrinology
Dr Dinesh Nagi is currently working as an Honorary Consultant in Diabetes and endocrinology at Pinderfields Hospital Wakefield. Having served as Chairman of the ABCD between 2017-2020, he has recently taken up the role of Vice-Chairman of the DCT (Diabetes Care Trust) UK, a charitable trust which works closely with the ABCD. His main interest in diabetes was to promote Integrated Diabetes Care among Primary and Specialist Diabetes Services. -
Dr. Dipesh Patel
Consultant Physician
Dr Dipesh C. Patel is a Consultant physician who is involved in the delivery of specialist clinical care in diabetes and general endocrinology and acute medicine at the Royal Free and Cleveland Clinic hospitals in London. His academic interests include cardiovascular disease in type 2 diabetes, he undertook work in cellular cholesterol transport leading to a PhD in 2010 at Imperial College. He has an interest in the use of newer diabetes therapies and clinical trials. He has undergraduate teaching lead and clinical trial responsibilities at the Royal Free campus and is an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at UCL.
Dr Patel has had a number of specialist advisory roles for the NHS, Royal College of Physicians and is past chair of the UK National body of diabetes consultant and trainees- Association of British Clinical Diabetologists (ABCD).
