ABCD Tirzepatide Audit
About the ABCD tirzepatide audit
The aim of the audit is to investigate real-world outcomes achieved in clinical practice with tirzepatide, the only marketed dual-incretin mimetic. Despite lagging behind some of its incretin mimetic competitors by lacking large-scale evidence of cardiovascular risk reduction in people with type 2 diabetes, the UK commercial launch of tirzepatide has nevertheless been supercharged, not only by favourable clinical trial data but also by a supply chain that has so far proven robust while competitor incretin mimetics have been intermittently unavailable. The extent of this success is such that, on current trajectories, monthly expenditure on tirzepatide in NHS England is likely to exceed that on all other incretin mimetics combined by mid-2025 (click here to see our analysis).
Is this expenditure justified? Do the outcomes in clinical practice measure up to those observed in highly selected, carefully supported clinical trial participants? What proportion of patients are unable to tolerate treatment? Do any clinical features predict response? The rapid uptake of tirzepatide in the UK provides us with a unique opportunity to answer these questions, quickly, and thus to inform clinical practice.
Non ABCD members
Non ABCD members are welcome to take part in the audit and will be given access to the on-line audit tool when they register for the audit.
Analyse your own data
The tool will allow you to analyse the data of your own patients for your own local interest; at the same time the data will automatically be available for national analysis of anonymised data. A video showing how to easily analyse your data is available on the ABCD YouTube channel.
Acknowledgement of contributors
As we have done with previous audits all contributors will be acknowledged in all papers and presentations from the audit data and biggest contributors will be offered the possibility of being co-authors.
Collect data on-line or via paper forms
The tirzepatide on-line audit tool is so easy to use that live data entry in clinic is a real option to be considered. Otherwise to facilitate data collection during clinics there are two paper forms which exactly match the data that can be entered into the audit tool. You can download and print these forms locally.
