ABCD Regional Meeting, Yorkshire

Regional Meeting Yorkshire

This meeting will run as a virtual event - all current registrations will be retained.

Covid-19 has disrupted our lives in ways previously unimaginable. The anxiety our patients face is enormous, but equally we must not forget the strain felt by colleagues who are struggling to provide diabetes care in very unusual and new settings.

Many diabetes colleagues were redeployed to ward duties and are returning to their diabetes teams to try and re-establish diabetes services. The ABCD is very aware of the need to support teams, who for most part have had to sacrifice CPD time almost entirely for the last 4 months.

The Yorkshire ABCD meeting provides an ideal opportunity to help in this context. We have revised the programme to cater to the needs of the entire hospital diabetes MDT and also be very relevant to community based staff. Attendees will receive 5 CPD points from the RCP.

The ongoing pandemic has enforced restrictions which preclude a large in-person meeting. Whilst the loss of this networking event cannot be avoided, it has however provided an opportunity to provide a free, easy to access educational service without any time or expense lost due to travel. As it is online, there is the added advantage of no restriction in the number of delegates who can benefit from this educational update.

The topics covered by regional and national experts, will be relevant to any healthcare professional involved in providing care to people with diabetes. You will have the chance to have your questions answered by our speakers on the day.

Key learning covered will address problems you will be dealing with every day in your work:

  • Interpreting and making best use of glucose data from flash monitoring
  • Update on Cardiovascular outcomes – which diabetes medication is best?
  • Very low calorie diets – How to make this work in real life clinical practice?
  • Exercise for people with Diabetes – What is safe to do and common challenges?
  • Diabetes distress – how to spot this and how can we help?
  • Foot complications – Current therapy and how to adapt to the new challenges?

The event is completely free and you can attend from the comfort of your home! We would love you to attend and please encourage as many colleagues as possible to register too.
