Dr. Soon Song

Soon Song is a consultant diabetologist at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. A graduate of the University of Edinburgh, he obtained his MD with distinction and was awarded the Endocrine Society prize for the best paper published in JCEM in 2000. He is a fulltime NHS consultant physician in general medicine with a specialist interest in diabetes. With clinical and research interests in young-onset type 2 diabetes, he leads the National Diabetes Audit (NDA) Quality Improvement Collaborative to improve care of this subgroup in Sheffield. He was appointed a Diabetes UK Clinical Champion for Northern and Yorkshire (2019) to help improve the lives of people with diabetes, and is a member of the NICE Diabetes Guideline Committee, NDA Advisory Group for Young Type 2 Diabetes and Virtual Wards National Clinical Advisory Group. He contributes to postgraduate education as the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh Regional Advisor for Trent, Medical Secretary of SCE Diabetes & Endocrinology Examination Board and as an examiner for PACES.
