
Dr. Alison Gallagher
Dr Gallagher is a Consultant Diabetologist at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
Dr Gallagher completed her MD on “The Use of Insulin Aspart in Type 2 Diabetes” at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Her clinical interests include type 1 diabetes and diabetes in pregnancy. In 2018, she has been a case reviewer for NCEPOD and her entry was selected as a finalist for the Type 1 Specialist Service section of the Quality in Care Diabetes Awards.
As a member of the ABCD Committee Dr Gallagher is producing a series of position statements which focus on controversial areas in the management of type 2 diabetes. This has included an ABCD letter to the BMJ challenging the purported link between pioglitazone use and bladder cancer risk and a position statement on the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis with SGLT-2 inhibitors. Most recently, Dr Gallagher has worked with Professor Alan Sinclair to develop a guideline on the management of frailty and associated comorbidities in older adults with diabetes.
