Launch of ABCD International Do-It-Yourself Artificial Pancreas System (DIY APS) audit

ABCD is pleased to announce the launch of the ABCD International Do-It-Yourself Artificial Pancreas System (DIY APS) audit and would like to invite you to take part.

Over recent years there has been an exponential increase in the number of users of DIY APS in the UK. Users describe the systems as ‘life changing’ and often report improvements in both time in range and quality of life. However, little objective data exists on the clinical benefits and potential risks of using these unapproved systems. The ABCD DIY APS audit aims to address this, providing insight into the impact on glucose levels, hypoglycaemia, hospital admissions and diabetes related distress. In its 2019 position statement Diabetes UK advocated participation in the ABCD audit programme as best practice in the care of those choosing to use these systems

Data for the audit will be collected during routine clinical practice to gain a real-world view of this DIY technology.  The audit is not confined to ABCD members, and indeed we invite all healthcare professionals, from adult and paediatric backgrounds to contribute. The data will be collected on a GDPR compliant secure platform.

PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE ENTERING SOMEONE INTO THE AUDIT WHO HAS ALREADY STARTED DIY APS PLEASE FILL IN BOTH FORMS THE FIRST TIME YOU COLLECT DATA FOR THEM - ONE FORM TO COLLECT DATA RELATING TO PRE DIY APS USE AND ONE TO COLLECT DATA RELATING TO THE TIME DURING USE.

The on-line tool for the audit contains a sophisticated data analysis tool making it quick and easy to analyse your own local audit data.  An ideal project for SpR, DSN or medical student if you do not have time yourself.  As usual, the anonymised data will also be available for national analysis.
