An interactive and educational day for patients with type 1 diabetes

Exercising for Type 1 Diabetes (EXTOD) and JDRF’s Performance in Exercise and Knowledge programme (PEAK) have again joined together with the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists (ABCD) to deliver a new and interactive training day focusing on type 1 diabetes and exercise.

This training day has been set up after an EXTOD and JDRF surveys both found that patients with type 1 diabetes find managing glucose around exercise challenging and requested further education on this subject.

This whole day event is aimed at people with type 1 diabetes who are interested in exercise, exercising regularly or are planning to start to train for a specific exercise event.

In small workshops, 2 experts in the field of diabetes and exercise will use interactive tools, clinical cases, shared learning and problem-based tasks to help you to manage your exercise choices confidently and safely. Topics covered in the programme will include the effects of different types of exercise on blood glucose levels, the rule of threes for managing glucose around exercise, nutrition and exercise and strategies to plan for exercise.

Expert speakers on the day include Dr Rob Andrews, Dr Alistair Lumb and Dr Parth Narendren. Course materials and a book incorporating all that is covered on the day will be provided to all participants.

The event will be held at The Radisson Blu hotel, Argyle Street Glasgow in the heart of the city centre and a few steps from Glasgow Central train station, there is also parking available nearby.
