Autumn Meeting 2017 Information


On arrival at BMA House you will need to check in at their main reception and be given a pass to enter the building. PLEASE NOTE ONLY REGISTERED DELEGATES, SPEAKERS AND SPONSORS WILL HAVE PASSES ALLOCATED TO THEM AND NO OTHER PEOPLE WILL BE ALLOWED ACCESS. Please then proceed to the Lutyens Suite (Snow & Paget Rooms) on the ground floor to register with the conference staff.

The ABCD registration and hospitality desks will be located in the Lutyens Suite on the ground floor of BMA House as follows:

9th Nov                         17.00 – 20.00 

10th Nov                       From 08.30 – 17.00      

Upon registration, you will receive your conference pack and badge. We request that you please wear your badge throughout the meeting.

The conference organising team will be based at this desk throughout the conference should you have any queries.


Abstracts should be for a poster on any subject which might be of interest to members of the Association - diabetes, endocrinology or general medicine.

  • Authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to display their work in the form of a poster at the meeting on 10th November, and those meeting the criteria for publication will be published on the ABCD and BJD websites.
  • The top 10 abstracts will be published in full in the BJD (subject to meeting the criteria for publication).
  • The top 4 abstracts submitted by SpR's will be selected for short oral sessions at the Autumn meeting. Presentations will be judged by a panel on the day and the 'ABCD Best Research Travel Grant' (to be administered by ABCD) will be awarded to the winner to support the presentation of the researchers' work at a major international meeting. eg. ADA. More than one prize may be awarded at the discretion of the judging panel (Note: This is separate to the ABCD SpR Training Award which is presented at the SpR meeting, and although you may submit your work for both meetings you can only win one award).

You will need to arrange your own accommodation.  A limited number of bedrooms are available at the Holiday Inn Bloomsbury at a specially negotiated rate of £165 bed and breakfast (including VAT) for the night of Thursday 9th November 2017. This hotel is located a short walk from BMA House. These rooms can be booked by phoning the hotel on 0871 942 9222, (select option 1) or by email to and quote reference code CBY.

These rooms and rates are only guaranteed until 9th October 2017. After this date accommodation and rates will be subject to availability. We strongly advise that you book your rooms well in advance.

Alternatively there are a number of hotels in this area of central London offering a range of prices and styles.  


All refreshments &  lunch on 10th Nov, and the evening drinks reception and dinner on 9th Nov will be served in the Lutyens Suite at BMA House. We will endeavour to cater for any dietary requirements that have been specified before the day but regret that it may not be possible to provide a special diet if we have not been notified in advance.


Accreditation for 6 points for full attendance of the meeting on 10th November by the RCP London has been approved (ref: 114719).  Certificates of attendance will be emailed to you after the event on receipt of a completed electronic evaluation form which you will receive immediately after the meeting.

The ABCD Dinner will be served on 9th November in the Snow Room at BMA House. The evening will commence with a drinks reception at 19.30, followed by dinner at 20.00. We will endeavour to cater for any dietary requirements that have been specified before the day but regret that it may not be possible to provide a special diet if we have not been notified in advance. The dress code is smart casual.

Submissions are invited from ABCD members appointed to their first consultant post within the last 10 years to give the 5th annual Niru Goenka Memorial Lecture at the Autumn Meeting. The remit of the lecture is to showcase pioneering work in managing diabetes across primary and secondary care. An honorarium, generously donated by the Goenka family, will be awarded. Submissions will be judged by the executive committee of ABCD - please send them to

Car - use the postcode WC1H 9JZ for your SatNav. the nearest NCP car park is a few minutes walk away. There is no parking available at BMA House. Please note the venue is within the London Congestion charge Zone (£11.50 per day).
